A collection of materials relating to Major General Whisenand's Air Force career. Included are official correspondence, memoranda, studies, and transcripts of speeches which pertain to the legislative history of the U. S. Air Force. Items include information on the Tenth Air Force activities in World War II, air operations in the China-Burma-India theater, and the United States strategic bombing survey for the Pacific War. Of significant note is a paper entitled "Legislative History of the Air Corps as it pertains to the Establishment of a Separate Service." The paper provides a detailed study of the development of the Air Corps from 1908 to 1941.

Whisenand, James Franklin, 1911-1967.

General Whisenand entered flight school in 1934 and graduated a year later. After tours of duty in California, North Carolina and Florida, he joined the 312th Fighter Wing in the China Theater, transferred to the 10th Air Force in Burma and was later named chief of staff. Whisenand returned to the United States in 1946, was appointed chief of the Special Projects Division at the Air War College and, by 1950, the general was appointed assistant deputy Air Force member on the Joint Strategic Plans...
